The objective of the Care for the Rare project is to “create a multi-site conservation collection of rare and threatened plants of Victoria." A project in partnership with Botanic Gardens Australia New Zealand (BGANZ) the Care for the Rare Collection houses a range of species that are found in a variety of Ecological Vegetation Classes (EVC’s) that are identified as rare or threatened throughout Wellington Shire Council.
The palate of plants selected for this expansion have been selected from an extensive list, sourced by staff from Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria and were grown on at Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria – Australian Botanic Garden (Cranbourne).
Designed by Andrew Laidlaw, the Living Collection was planted out in October 2021.
