Thanks to everyone who came and celebrating International Compost Awareness Week with us at our free compost workshop!
Held at Seed Community Garden, our Sale Botanic Gardens curator Tony was on hand to walk people through the basics of an effective compost heap, demonstrating the cold compost layering method.
In Victoria, nearly half the waste that makes up our kerbside bins could be composted, but instead it rots in landfill –producing the potent greenhouse gas, methane. Collecting your kitchen scraps and garden trimmings and turning it into compost is a great way to reduce landfill and keep the garden looking lush.
If you missed out on the workshop, don’t panic – we’ve put together a fact sheet with all of Tony’s tips and tricks to make a great mix full of beneficial bacteria.
