Wellington Shire Council has recently acquired a new range of battery-powered outdoor tools in a bid to leave petrol power in the past.
Council’s decision to transition from petrol powered tools has been welcomed by Council staff, who over the past twelve months have been looking for ways to improve efficiencies, make greener choices and stay ahead of the game when it comes to implementing sustainable practices into the future.
The new tools are environmentally friendly and cutting edge and are now in daily use at the Sale Botanic Gardens. The updated collection includes a brush cutter, backpack blower, hedge trimmer and pole hedge trimmer.
After a few weeks of trialling the new tools, Council’s Natural Environment & Parks team is more than happy to spruik the benefits:
While the tools have a higher upfront cost, there is no need to purchase fuel or complete extensive servicing, each tool comes with a longer life span and extended warranty.
Wellington Shire Council Mayor Ian Bye commented that the new tools are a great example of how Council is working towards a sustainable future and supporting our commitment to reduce our carbon footprint throughout Wellington Shire.
“This is just the start. This forward-thinking approach will see the organisation continue transitioning from petrol to battery-operated equipment over the next two to five years, in line with priorities set out in our Council Plan”, Cr Bye said.
