Being a collection that highlights rare and threatened species is a challenge as the plants that we are wanting to display are not readily available, or easy to propagate – that is why they are rare and threatened!
Staff from Royal Botanic Gardens have been conducting field trips to collect seed and plant material from within Wellington Shire, using the nursery at Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne to grow the plants for the Care for the Rare Collection.
Once ready, further planting will be undertaken in the garden beds, which look a little sparse currently.
Visitors are encouraged to continue to return to check out the Care for the Rare Living Collection to watch it develop in the months ahead.
