The Elm Forest, which can be dated back to the original planting of Ulmus procera (English Elm) in 1881 has come about from years of being part of a fauna enclosure.
Grazing by the kangaroos, and not being maintained by staff, resulted in elm suckers developing into trees and the area becoming a ‘forest’.
